International Public Lecture of FP USU features Joann Whalen, B.Sc. (Agr.), M.Sc., Ph.D., from McGill University, Canada, to discuss the role of soil health as a foundation for realizing resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.
Medan, September 29, 2026 – The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU) will hold an International Public Lecture with the theme “Soil Health: A Foundation for Resilient Agri-Food Systems.” This activity is organized through a collaboration among the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology at the North Nias Campus, the Master's Program in Agrotechnology, and the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences.
The activity will feature Joann Whalen, B.Sc. (Agr.), M.Sc., Ph.D., James McGill Professor in the Department of Natural Resources Sciences, McGill University, Canada, as the speaker. Dr. Whalen is also a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America and a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Soil Science.
Through this theme, the activity will discuss the importance of soil health as one of the foundations for building resilient and sustainable food and agricultural systems. This forum will also serve as a space for the academic community to gain international insights and perspectives on soil health management in supporting the resilience of agri-food systems.
The International Public Lecture will be moderated by Wida Akasah, S.Agr., M.Sc., a lecturer of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology.
