T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar, an Agribusiness student of FP USU, won the Bronze Medal in the Best Effort for Mix Group category at the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026, while also being part of the USU seminar team that secured two Gold Medals in the Best Presentation and Best Paper categories.

Another outstanding achievement has been recorded by a student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), on the international stage. T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar, an Agribusiness student, contributed to the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) seminar team’s success in securing two highest honors at the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026, held at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP).

At the event, which brought together students and academic community members from various higher education institutions across the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) region, the USU seminar team won two Gold Medals, one each in the Best Presentation and Best Paper categories.

The achievement represents a significant accomplishment for USU while demonstrating students’ ability to develop academic ideas, produce scholarly works, and present them at an international forum involving participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Contribution of an Agribusiness Student from FP USU

One of the students who was part of the USU seminar team delegation was T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar (Student ID 230304001) from the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture USU.

In addition to contributing to the USU seminar team’s success in winning two Gold Medals, Rifky also achieved an individual accomplishment by winning a Bronze Medal in the Best Effort for Mix Group category.

The award was earned through Rifky’s participation in a mixed group consisting of participants from different countries. This cross-country collaboration provided valuable experience in developing communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills while working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

Participation in the mixed group also gave Rifky an opportunity to expand his international network while developing interpersonal skills needed in both academic and professional environments.

A Platform for International Competition and Collaboration

The 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026 is an international event that is not only focused on competition but also serves as a platform for strengthening friendship, enhancing cooperation among higher education institutions, and building student networks across the IMT-GT region.

In 2026, the IMT-GT Varsity Carnival featured three main areas: sports competitions, cultural performances, and academic seminars. The participation of USU students in the event was part of efforts to broaden students’ international exposure and experiences through direct interaction with participants from different countries.

For students, forums such as this provide opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, presentation, and teamwork skills, while also gaining a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives in an international environment.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals

The participation and achievements of FP USU students in the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026 are also aligned with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Through SDG 4, the activity supports student competency development through learning experiences beyond the classroom, particularly in academic skills, critical thinking, communication, presentation, and collaboration.

Meanwhile, SDG 17 is reflected in the interactions and collaboration among students and higher education institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The experience of working in cross-country groups is an important part of building educational networks and partnerships at the regional level.

The achievement of T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar together with the USU seminar team demonstrates that students of the Faculty of Agriculture are capable not only of achieving individual accomplishments but also of contributing to institutional achievements at the international level.

The Faculty of Agriculture USU continues to encourage students to take advantage of various academic and nonacademic opportunities as platforms to develop their potential, broaden their perspectives, build networks, and bring recognition to the Faculty of Agriculture and Universitas Sumatera Utara at both national and international levels.

Congratulations to T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar and the entire USU seminar team on this outstanding achievement. Keep achieving, collaborating, and inspiring!
