Padang, August 27, 2026 — Students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), once again achieved a notable accomplishment at the international 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2026, held at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP). The Universitas Sumatera Utara Mini Soccer team won the Silver Medal, or second place, bringing recognition to USU on the international stage.
The IMT-GT Varsity Carnival is an international event that serves as a platform for students and academic communities from universities across the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) region to meet and interact. Beyond competition, the event strengthens friendship, cooperation among universities, international networking, and students’ global experiences.
The 2026 edition of the 25th IMT-GT Varsity Carnival was hosted by Universitas Negeri Padang and attended by universities from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The event featured three main areas: sports competitions, cultural performances, and academic seminars.
One of the sports competitions entered by the Universitas Sumatera Utara contingent was mini soccer. Competing against students from universities across the IMT-GT region, the USU team performed successfully throughout the competition, finishing in second place and earning the Silver Medal.
Three students from the Faculty of Agriculture were part of the USU Mini Soccer team and contributed to this achievement: Fajar Hijratullah (Student ID 220302046) from the Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management, Muhammad Rafly (Student ID 230304010) from the Undergraduate Program in Agribusiness, and Glen Uwel Patardo Hutahaean (Student ID 240301007) from the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology.
The participation of FP USU students in this international event represents an active contribution to international non-academic activities. In addition to developing athletic skills and achievements, the experience provided students with opportunities to interact with participants from different countries, broaden their international perspectives, build networks, and develop values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsibility.
This achievement is also aligned with Universitas Sumatera Utara’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the holistic development of student competencies and experiences both within and beyond the academic environment. The activity also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening networks and collaboration among students and universities across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
The achievement of Fajar, Muhammad Rafly, and Glen Uwel Patardo Hutahaean as members of the Silver Medal-winning team is expected to inspire other FP USU students to continue developing their potential, compete confidently at the international level, and bring greater recognition to the Faculty of Agriculture and Universitas Sumatera Utara across various fields.
Congratulations to the students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, on this outstanding achievement. Keep achieving, building collaborations, and taking USU to the world!
