Medan, September 4, 2026 — The Aquatic Resources Management Study Program (MSP), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), organized a preparatory session for 62 students who will undertake internships and research as part of the Learning Outside the Study Program (PLPS) Program. The activity was held on campus on September 4, 2026.
The preparatory session was opened and directly coordinated by the Secretary of the MSP Study Program, Amanatul Fadhilah, S.Pi., M.Si., together with faculty members serving as supervisors. Also in attendance were Julia Syhariani Hasibuan, M.Si., Nur Rohim, M.Si., Rrusdi Leidonald, M.Sc., Harya Bimasuci W., M.Sc., and Atmadinata Aviantara, S.Pi., M.Tr.Pi. The activity served as an initial step in preparing students for learning in professional and research environments. Through the preparatory session, students were expected to understand their responsibilities throughout the PLPS program, adapt to partner environments, and uphold ethics, discipline, and the reputation of the university.
Guidance from the study program is also expected to help students connect the knowledge gained through coursework with practical applications in the field. In addition to developing technical skills, internships and research provide opportunities for students to strengthen their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
A total of 62 PLPS participants were assigned to the following seven locations and activities:
- PT Juragan Dimsu: 10 students.
- Technical Implementation Unit of the Center for Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine, under the Indonesian Quarantine Agency: 12 students.
- Tebing Tinggi Fish Seed Center (BBI Tebing Tinggi): 20 students.
- PT Kawasan Industri Medan 2, Medan: 2 students.
- Yagasu (Yayasan Gajah Sumatera): 6 students.
- MSP USU Research in collaboration with RSI: 6 students.
- MSP USU Research in collaboration with Yeah Foundation: 6 students.
The diversity of locations and activities provides students with opportunities to gain experience tailored to the characteristics of each partner. Involvement in industry, government institutions, and research activities is expected to broaden students’ perspectives while helping them identify potential career opportunities.
The implementation of PLPS is aligned with the spirit of SDG 4: Quality Education through the development of skills and learning experiences relevant to the needs of the professional world. The program is also related to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by enhancing students’ readiness to enter the professional workforce.
Collaboration with various partners also reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. These partnerships provide opportunities to strengthen relationships between higher education institutions and partner organizations in supporting education and research.
Through this preparatory session, the MSP Study Program, USU, hopes that students will be able to undertake their internships and research responsibly while gaining valuable experience that contributes to the completion of their studies and future career development.
