PT Toba Pulp Lestari conducted a benchmarking visit to USU's Teaching Farm to develop a CSR program through Closed House. The event included discussions and a positive contribution to the surrounding community.

PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) and stakeholders from the surrounding area of the Perseroan Estate Tapanuli Selatan concession conducted a benchmarking visit to the Teaching Farm Closed House at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) on December 10, 2024. The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, through the team of lecturers from the Animal Husbandry Study Program, warmly welcomed this visit. The guests and speakers at this event included PT Karya Semangat Mandiri (KSM).

TPL explained that this visit aimed to conduct a benchmarking study on the development of the Closed House for a planned Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity for the surrounding area of the Perseroan Estate Tapanuli Selatan concession. Mr. Limbong Dongoran (Head of Social Capital at TPL) stated, "One of our programs is how to improve the economy of the community around the TPL concession, so that we can later implement this for the benefit of the community, and TPL can gain insight into how this CSR project with the construction of the closed house can run well."

Mr. Raja Aman Siregar (Area Head of PT KSM) also said, "Charoen Pokphand / PT KSM supports the ideas from TPL, and we believe this initiative will help meet the livelihood needs of the community."

The event began with a visit to the Teaching Farm Closed House at the Faculty of Agriculture USU, guided by Mr. Elwin Sinukaban (Sub Area Head of PT KSM) and Fuad Hasan, S.Pt., M.Si. (Lecturer of the Animal Husbandry Study Program at USU), followed by a discussion in the main meeting room of the Faculty of Agriculture USU.

Mr. Elwin Sinukaban facilitated the discussion, saying, "It is an honor for us to share knowledge on how to earn income through the Teaching Farm Closed House, and we are confident that the program proposed by TPL is a good program."

Mr. Dodi Harahap (Representative from the Government of East Angkola Subdistrict) said, "We hope that the knowledge shared will be beneficial and have a positive impact on East Angkola Subdistrict and the three villages that attended. They are already very enthusiastic because today we are seeking knowledge, not money, and this knowledge can be applied in the villages and subdistrict."

We hope that PT Toba Pulp Lestari's program plans can be implemented soon, and that the Faculty of Agriculture at USU can make a positive contribution to this benchmarking study.
