The program also involved 18 student representatives from the Plant Clinic Student Unit and 30 local residents of Gunung Meriah Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra.
Gunung Meriah Village is a region rich in natural resources with vast land areas suitable for various development opportunities, particularly in agriculture. The majority of its population depends on agriculture as their primary livelihood. However, they still face limited knowledge and understanding of organic farming practices. Most farmers in this village rely on conventional farming methods using chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Based on situational analysis and identified issues, the program prioritized introducing beneficial bacteria for healthier plants to enhance agricultural production in Gunung Meriah Village.
Objectives of the Community Service Program
- To introduce organic farming methods to farmers, particularly through the utilization of PGPR (Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria) to stimulate crop growth.
- To reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in farming practices in Gunung Meriah Village.
- To fulfill one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service.
