Medan, June 6, 2026 — The Plant Clinic Student Activity Unit (UKM KLINTAN), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, once again provided an inspiring learning space for students through Klintan Webinar Vol. 3. The webinar offered students an opportunity to learn from the academic journey of Rivaldi Pratama, S.Si., M.Sc., a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), who achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA and received the UGM Plant Pathology PMDSU Scholarship. The event was opened by the Advisor of UKM KLINTAN, Triwanto Nababan, S.P., M.Agr. His experience demonstrated that achievement does not happen instantly but is built through consistency, the courage to try, education, and research.
Through the theme “Planting Dream, Growing Achievement,” students were encouraged to set academic goals from an early stage and develop their potential through continuous learning. The activity aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting learning opportunities, competency development, and capacity building beyond formal classroom learning. It also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange within the academic community.
From Dreams to Achievement: Dare to Grow Through Research
During the webinar, Rivaldi shared his academic journey while studying at Universitas Gadjah Mada, the various opportunities he had pursued, and his experience in obtaining scholarships. Participants were also given the opportunity to engage in discussions and ask questions, particularly about scholarship opportunities, the application process and preparations required, as well as opportunities to pursue higher education. A total of 88 participants took part in the activity and had the opportunity to interact directly with the speaker.
Research is an important part of the academic journey. Through research, students not only learn to understand problems scientifically but are also trained to think critically, develop solutions, and produce knowledge that can benefit society.
In addition to his research experience, Rivaldi shared information about scholarship opportunities and further education. Participants gained an overview of various aspects that need to be prepared, ranging from academic achievement, research and organizational experience, and communication skills to readiness to determine their educational direction. The key message conveyed was that preparation for further education does not have to begin after students complete their undergraduate studies. Instead, various experiences and competencies can be developed from the early stages of university life.
Planting Future: Planting Dreams, Growing Achievement
The spirit of “Planting Dreams, Growing Achievement” was the central message of the activity. Dreams should not merely remain aspirations but need to be translated into concrete steps through learning, experience, and the courage to try. Opportunities to obtain scholarships, pursue further education, participate in research, build networks, and even consider studying abroad can be prepared for during university. Academic achievement is an important asset, but students also need to develop organizational experience, communication skills, research skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
As a student activity unit within the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, KLINTAN strives to serve as a space where students can not only learn about plant health but also develop their academic, communication, leadership, and networking skills. Ultimately, Planting Future is not merely about planting dreams but about nurturing those dreams through learning, experience, hard work, and the courage to keep trying.
