USU's 2023 DRTPM program in Desa Afulu focuses on rehabilitating coral reefs impacted by asphalt spills through transplantation with KUB Harapan Wunga.
The 2023 Community Partnership Empowerment Scheme (DRTPM) Community Service Program titled “Coral Reef Transplantation Impacted by Asphalt Spills for Ecosystem Rehabilitation in Desa Afulu, North Nias Regency” has been successfully implemented. This initiative focused on rehabilitating damaged coral reef ecosystems caused by asphalt spills using coral transplantation methods. The community service team from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) consisted of Vindy Rilani Manurung, S.Pi., M.P., Hafizah Arinah, S.Hut., M.Sc., and Ipanna Enggar Susetya, S.Kel., M.Si. During the program, the team provided training and assistance to members of KUB Harapan Wunga on effective and sustainable coral transplantation techniques. This initiative also aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of coral reef ecosystems in supporting the sustainability of fisheries and the local economy.
