MEDAN, 21 July 2026 – The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) reaffirmed its commitment to improving teaching quality by organizing the E-Learning Workshop: Strategies for Developing Teaching Materials, Assessments, and Digital Learning Media on Tuesday (21 July 2026) at Classroom I, Faculty of Agriculture USU. The workshop brought together lecturers from across the Faculty as part of ongoing efforts to support the digital transformation of education while strengthening educators' competencies in utilizing technology to create more effective learning experiences.

The workshop was designed to equip lecturers with the skills needed to optimize the USU Learning Management System (LMS) through the development of technology-based instructional materials, authentic assessment strategies, and innovative, interactive digital learning media. By enhancing lecturers' digital competencies, the Faculty aims to deliver more meaningful, adaptive, and engaging learning experiences that meet the evolving demands of higher education in the digital era.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Dr. Nini Rahmawati, S.P., M.Si., who emphasized that strengthening lecturers' digital competencies is a strategic priority in addressing the rapid advancement of technology-enhanced learning.

"This workshop reflects the Faculty's commitment to enhancing lecturers' competencies in responding to the challenges of e-learning. We hope our lecturers will gain new insights, knowledge, and practical skills to develop high-quality, interactive learning materials, implement authentic assessments, and effectively utilize learning media through the USU LMS," said Dr. Nini Rahmawati.

The workshop featured three main sessions covering key aspects of digital learning development. In the first session, Ryandika Afdila, S.T., M.Eng.Sc. discussed advanced management of teaching materials within the USU LMS, highlighting the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance instructional design. The second session, delivered by Reza Taqyuddin, M.Kom., focused on grading systems and rubric development within the LMS to promote more objective and measurable assessment practices. The final session was presented by Anggi Maisarah, S.H., M.H., who emphasized the importance of developing instructional videos as engaging digital learning resources that enrich the teaching and learning process.

Through these sessions, participants gained both theoretical insights and practical skills for designing technology-enhanced learning environments that improve instructional effectiveness while fostering student-centered, innovative educational practices. The integration of the LMS with digital technologies and artificial intelligence is expected to create learning experiences that are more flexible, collaborative, and aligned with the competencies required in 21st-century higher education.

The workshop represents one of the Faculty of Agriculture USU's strategic initiatives to strengthen a culture of digital learning while continuously improving the quality of higher education. It also supports Universitas Sumatera Utara's vision of "The Era of Ultimate Excellence" and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through capacity building for lecturers and enhanced teaching quality, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the adoption of digital innovation in education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture USU and the Directorate of Learning Digitalization USU in strengthening an adaptive, competitive, and globally oriented higher education ecosystem.
