The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU) welcomed a delegation from the Indonesian Diaspora Network of the Americas (IDN of the Americas) on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the FP USU Dean's Meeting Room. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, S.P., M.Ec.; the Vice Dean III, Dr. Ir. Posma Mangasi Pintaria Marbun, M.P.; the Head of the Cooperation Subdivision; and representatives from IDN of the Americas led by its Executive Director, Velisia Sitanggang Sexton, along with staff members.
The discussion focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in establishing coffee exporter groups and enhancing education on the opportunities and potential of the Indonesian coffee market in the United States. Participants emphasized the importance of synergy among universities, business actors, and the Indonesian diaspora in expanding access to global markets, strengthening exporters' capacities, and enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee.
Through this exploratory partnership, the Faculty of Agriculture at USU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its role as a strategic partner in advancing an agriculture sector driven by innovation, downstream development, and international networking. Collaboration with IDN of the Americas is expected to create new opportunities for Indonesian coffee businesses to enter the U.S. market while supporting the development of a sustainable export ecosystem.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening the competitiveness of coffee enterprises, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the development of value chains for priority commodities, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration between higher education institutions and the Indonesian diaspora network at the international level.
