The Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of North Nias Regency conducted a work visit to the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Those attending the visit included Sukanto Waruru, S.E. (Chairman of DPRD North Nias Regency), Dalifati Ziliwu, M.Pd (Chair of Commission II DPRD North Nias Regency), Fangatulo Zega, S.E. (Secretary of Commission II DPRD North Nias Regency), as well as members of Commission II DPRD North Nias Regency: Bedali Lase, S.Pd.K, Soiriang Ziliwu, A.Md., Damaria Zai, A.Ma., and Ahabi Abibus Baeha. Also present was the Acting Head of the Education Office of North Nias Regency, Hasambua Harefa, S.Pd., M.M. The DPRD and Education Office delegation were received by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., and the Dean’s Expert Staff, R.B. Ibrahim Fatoni, S.Pi., M.P.
The focus of this work visit was on the Program Studi Di Luar Kampus Utama Universitas Sumatera Utara (PSDKU-USU) in North Nias Regency. PSDKU is an academic program offered in regencies or administrative cities that are not directly adjacent to the main campus. As known, two study programs have been established so far, namely Agroecotechnology and Aquatic Resource Management, which have been running for two semesters. North Nias has potential in agriculture and fisheries; however, its management is still not optimal due to the limited human resources (HR). Through PSDKU, students are expected to manage resources and take an active role in advancing their region.
During the visit, the Chairman of the DPRD of North Nias Regency conveyed the purpose of the work visit, which was to discuss the alignment of vision/mission, refine information, and identify necessary steps related to the development of PSDKU-USU in North Nias. Several crucial topics were discussed, including new student admissions, the continuation of the establishment of PSDKU-USU in North Nias, and other related matters. The work visit concluded with a photo session between the two parties.
