Medan, September 24, 2026 — The Head and Secretary of the Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), participated in the Assistance for Updating Higher Education Standards of Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized by the Directorate of Quality Assurance of USU on Thursday (September 24, 2026).
The activity was part of USU's efforts to update and align Higher Education Standards at the faculty and study program levels. The update referred to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Regulation Number 39 of 2025 and Number 10 of 2026 concerning Higher Education Quality Assurance, while also serving as part of the preparation for the implementation of the 19th Cycle Internal Quality Audit (AMI) of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) in 2026.

The Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management was one of the study programs within the Faculty of Agriculture USU that participated in the activity. The Head and Secretary of the MSP Study Program participated in Session I, which began at 14.00 WIB in the Meeting Room on the 1st Floor of the Directorate of Quality Assurance USU, with Melly Frizha, S.Si., M.Si. as the facilitator.
One important aspect of updating higher education standards is ensuring that the implementation of education at the study program level has a clear direction in producing graduates who meet the established profiles and competencies. Therefore, this activity provided an opportunity for the MSP USU Study Program to review the relationship between graduate competency standards, graduate learning outcomes (CPL), curriculum, learning processes, assessment, and the continuous quality assurance system.
The Head of the MSP USU Study Program, Dr. Ahmad Muhtadi, S.Pi., M.Si., stated that this activity was important to ensure that the academic documents and implementation of the MSP Study Program remain aligned with the latest higher education standards.
“Updating these standards is not only related to the completeness of quality documents, but more importantly, to how these standards actually serve as references in the implementation of education. For the MSP Study Program, we want to ensure consistency starting from the graduate profile, CPL, curriculum, and learning process to assessment, so that graduate competencies can be measured and aligned with the development of science and the needs of the workforce,” said Ahmad Muhtadi.
The participation of the Head and Secretary of the MSP Study Program in this activity also reflects the study program's commitment to strengthening a quality culture and implementing continuous improvement. The results of the assistance are expected to serve as a basis for evaluating and improving academic documents and implementing the Internal Quality Assurance System at the study program level.
In addition to supporting readiness for the 19th Cycle AMI of the SPMI in 2026, the updating of these standards also has strategic significance for the MSP USU Study Program in strengthening academic governance, ensuring the achievement of graduate competencies, and improving learning quality so that graduates can respond to the increasingly complex challenges of aquatic resource management.
Through this activity, the MSP USU Study Program reaffirms its commitment to building higher education that is of high quality, relevant, adaptive, and oriented toward graduate competencies. Efforts to update standards and strengthen the quality culture are in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, through improving the quality of learning processes and higher education quality assurance systems. In addition, collaboration between the study program and the Directorate of Quality Assurance USU in promoting continuous improvement also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as part of joint efforts to strengthen the quality of education within Universitas Sumatera Utara.
