Medan, July 28, 2026 – The spirit of international collaboration was evident throughout the implementation of the World Friends Korea (WFK) Youth Volunteer Program 2026 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Following the public lecture, students from the Faculty of Agriculture USU and various universities in South Korea continued the program through discussion sessions, presentations, introductions, and cultural exchange activities.
The program began with an introductory session, allowing Indonesian and Korean students to get to know one another, establish communication, and build stronger connections. The atmosphere became even more engaging through ice-breaking activities that encouraged active interaction before the presentation sessions commenced.
Students from the Faculty of Agriculture USU delivered presentations on various topics related to environmental challenges and sustainable agricultural development, including From Environmental Challenges to Sustainable Solutions, Faculty of Agriculture USU Profile, Climate Threats & Agricultural Waste Burden, Redefining Agricultural Management, and Intervention. Through these presentations, the students introduced innovative initiatives, academic activities, and the Faculty's contributions to advancing sustainable agricultural development.
Meanwhile, the Korean students presented Takengon Activity Plans Overview, outlining their community service activities planned in Takengon, Aceh. They also introduced the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a tool for understanding personality characteristics and fostering more effective communication throughout the program.
The discussions were highly interactive, featuring exchanges of experiences and perspectives on climate change, sustainable agriculture, student activities, and the cultures of both countries. The session served as an important first step in building collaboration between Indonesian and Korean students before they jointly undertake community service activities in Takengon.
The series of discussions, presentations, and cultural exchange activities provided a valuable platform for participants to broaden their perspectives, strengthen international networks, and foster collaboration in addressing future challenges related to agricultural development and environmental sustainability. Through this initiative, the Faculty of Agriculture USU contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing cross-cultural learning experiences, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by facilitating the exchange of ideas on environmental issues and sustainable agriculture, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening academic collaboration and student partnerships between Indonesia and South Korea.
