Efforts to strengthen the connection between academic learning and field practice were realized through the Learning Outside the Study Program (PLPS) activity of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), at PT Prime Agri Resources Tbk – PT Sungai Rangit, Sukamara Regency, Central Kalimantan.
This activity provided students with an opportunity to gain direct learning experience in a work environment while becoming more familiar with the practices and dynamics of oil palm plantation management. Through this activity, students were able to develop technical skills and understand the application of knowledge acquired during lectures in real-world field contexts. PLPS also provided students with space to connect academic learning with the needs of the world of work.
Involvement in a professional oil palm plantation environment encouraged students to develop adaptability, responsibility, professionalism, and skills relevant to developments in the plantation sector. This learning outside the study program is expected to strengthen students' competencies while providing a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of the world of work. Thus, students not only gain practical experience but also have better preparation to face professional challenges and needs in the fields of agriculture and plantations.
Learning directly, developing skills, and expanding experience to become competent and adaptable agricultural professionals. This PLPS activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
