A USU Faculty of Agriculture professor joined PT Pelindo's FGD in Gunungsitoli to discuss optimizing Nias' natural resources via MSME empowerment. Coconut downstream product training is set for August 2023 at USU.

One of the professors from the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara participated as a speaker in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) on June 13, 2023, at the Kaliki Meeting Hall in Gunungsitoli City. The FGD carried the theme “Optimizing Nias' Natural Resources Through Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Empowerment”.


Several lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara also participated as speakers in this FGD, including:

  • Prof. Ir. Lilis Sukeksi, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering, USU)
  • Ir. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM. (Faculty of Engineering, USU)
  • Ir. Erni Misran, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering, USU)

 

Following this discussion, a training program will be conducted to produce derivative coconut products such as soap and shampoo from coconut oil, as well as VCO and nata de coco. The training will be offered to selected MSMEs and is planned to last for 5 days in two batches, scheduled for August 2023 at USU.
