Medan, October 17, 2026 — The Master's Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), organized a Training on Simple Ruminant Feed Formulation for Livestock Farmers and Students on Saturday, October 17, 2026, located at the DH Penny Building, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The event was attended by 39 participants, comprising livestock farmers, Master's students in Animal Science, Undergraduate students in Animal Husbandry, and several lecturers. This activity aimed to increase participants' knowledge and understanding regarding the principles of proper, efficient ruminant feed formulation that meets livestock nutritional requirements. The training also served as a medium to introduce the importance of selecting feed ingredients, utilizing local feed resources, and formulating simple rations as an effort to support livestock business productivity and efficiency.

The training featured three speakers with academic and practical backgrounds in livestock science: Dr. Ir. Ma’ruf Tafsin, M.Si., IPM, Head of the Master's Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture USU; Muhammad Amran, S.Pt., M.Pt., lecturer in the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture USU; and Jonatan Kristian Simatupang, S.Pt., Supervisor at PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. Through material presentations and discussions, participants gained insights into ruminant feed management and the importance of applying animal nutrition principles in ration formulation. The involvement of speakers from both academia and industry is expected to enrich participants' perspectives while strengthening the link between scientific development and its practical application in the field.

This activity is a form of contribution from the Master's Program in Animal Science in supporting human resource capacity building in animal husbandry, particularly for livestock farmers and students. Knowledge regarding proper feed formulation is expected to provide valuable skills in increasing feed ingredient efficiency, supporting livestock productivity, and driving the development of competitive and sustainable ruminant livestock businesses. The Simple Ruminant Feed Formulation Training reflects the commitment of the Master's Program in Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture USU, to fulfilling the Tridharma of Higher Education through educational activities, scientific development, and collaboration with various parties.
