Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) collaborates with the ‘Lembaga Nasional Single Window (LNSW)’ or  The National Single Window Organization in an effort to revive the national economy and implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka program. The collaboration was formalized by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) by USU Rector Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. and Head of NSW Mochammad Agus Rofiudin, S.Kom., M.M. at the USU Rector's Residence on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

The USU Rector said that in implementing the national economic recovery, the LNSW certainly has various challenges that require collaboration with universities.

"One of the challenges that need to be collaborated is the issue of customs clearance for exports and imports. By working together, we can mutually benefit," he said.

The Rector added that USU and NSW can conduct internships, joint research, and independent studies. Students will intern to learn about the work done by the NSW in order to provide certainty to the public digitally.

"Students, for example, can learn how to collect customs and excise data so that it no longer requires lengthy bureaucracy, transparency that can be accessed by the public, and quality of service that increasingly provides certainty," he continued.

In addition, according to the rector, joint seminars can also be held to socialize how the government's digital services framework is done as a based practice to lecturers and students.

"After the signing of this, we will discuss more technical matters. In the first stage, we will call the deans of FEB, FASILKOM, FISIP, and FH to be able to follow up on technical matters," he said.

On the same occasion, the Head of LNSW said that the pandemic has had a tremendous impact on global trade. Therefore, the government does not want to be complacent and will take advantage of the pandemic situation to make a leap by encouraging universities to participate.

"Of course, this is not an easy job; it needs the synergy of ministries, institutions, and academics because the future of Indonesia lies with the young generation on campus," said Agus.

According to Agus, his party has seen tremendous potential in USU. Apart from its strategic location near the Strait of Malacca, USU also has excellent human resources (HR). USU's HR in the North Sumatra region is expected to be actively involved in helping the government boost economic performance.

"Not only from the technical side, this institution will also guide students from the side of soft skills so that in the future, this synergy will have an impact on the progress of Indonesia's economic performance," he hoped.
