USU and CIRAD successfully organized the 3rd Summer Course on the theme of an inclusive and sustainable palm oil industry. The event involved expert speakers and students from various international universities.

The 3rd Summer Course with the theme “Inclusive and Sustainable Palm Oil Industry” was organized by the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and CIRAD. This event took place online on November 4-6, 2024, and continued offline on November 11-16, 2024, at Singapore City Hotel, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra.

The opening of the 3rd Summer Course was held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Singapore City Hotel. The event began with remarks from Prof. Dr. Rudy Sofyan, S.S., M.Hum. (Chair of Commission A of the USU Academic Senate) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S. (Dean of the USU Faculty of Agriculture), and continued with the introduction of the TALENT program and Summer School by Prof. Alain Rival (TALENT Coordinator).

The 3rd Summer Course this time presented eight expert speakers from various universities around the world, including Nidya Kartikasari, Ph.D. (Directorate General of Americas and Europe, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia), Diana Chalil, Ph.D. ( Universitas Sumatera Utara), Prof. Muhammad Ashfaq (The University of Faisalabad, Pakistan), Erick Firmansyah (INSTIPER Yogyakarta), Riswan Zein (Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (IDH)), Linda Kwok (Musim Mas Group), Prof. Shaufique F. Sidique (Universiti Putra Malaysia), and Prof. Abdul Rauf (Universitas Sumatera Utara).

A total of 33 selected students from various universities around the world participated in this activity, including Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Malaysia), MNS-University of Agriculture (Pakistan), Syiah Kuala University (Indonesia), Government College University Faisalabad (Pakistan), National Textile University (Pakistan), Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian (Indonesia), Prince of Songkhla University (Thailand), Indonesian Institute of Palm Technology (Indonesia), Universitas Sumatera Utara (Indonesia), and Kasetsart University Chalermprakiat Sakon Nakhon Province (Thailand).

The USU Faculty of Agriculture sent four students of the Agribusiness Study Program-Salsabillah, Mutia Wardah Siregar, Mayumi Wijaya, and T. Muhammad Rifky Azhar-to participate in this event. The hope is that this 3rd Summer Course activity can run well, strengthen international collaboration, and support the creation of an inclusive and sustainable palm oil industry.
