The Master's Program in Animal Science at Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully hosted an International Guest Lecture on "Recent Trends in Livestock Production in Southeast Asia" and signed collaboration agreements with two leading universities from Malaysia and Thailand. The event featured expert speakers from Prince of Songkla University and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.
Medan – Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara: The Master's Program in Animal Science successfully held an International Guest Lecture titled "Recent Trends in Livestock Production in Southeast Asia: Case Studies from Malaysia and Thailand" at the D.H. Penny Hall, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Additionally, this event marked the signing of collaboration agreements (Implementation of Agreement) between the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and the Faculty of Natural Resources, Prince of Songkla University, as well as with the Faculty of Agro-Based Industry, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. (Monday, November 25, 2024).
The International Guest Lecture was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S. (Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, USU), Heads and Secretaries of the Undergraduate Animal Science Program, the Master's Program in Animal Science, and the Master's Program in Agribusiness, along with lecturers, academic staff, and students from both the undergraduate and master's programs in Animal Science. The event featured renowned experts in the field:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaiyawan Wattanachant (Prince of Songkla University), presenting "Goat Production in Southern Thailand and Slaughtering, Carcass, and Meat Quality"
Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Khairiyah Mat (Universiti Malaysia Kelantan), presenting "Recent Trends in Livestock Production in Southeast Asia: Case Studies from Malaysia"
This International Guest Lecture provided valuable insights into how the livestock sector in Thailand and Malaysia has advanced through the implementation of modern technology and innovative practices. Therefore, continuous innovation and policy support from various stakeholders play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable growth in the livestock industry. It is hoped that Animal Science students at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, as the next generation, will absorb, utilize, and apply this knowledge effectively for the future development of Indonesia.
