The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) signed a collaboration agreement with the JHL Merah Putih Foundation on March 13, 2025, at Soeratman Hall, Faculty of Agriculture USU. Prior to this, the JHL Foundation had also signed an MoU with Universitas Sumatera Utara on the same day.
In her remarks, USU Rector, represented by Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., expressed her gratitude to JHL Merah Putih Kasih Foundation and conveyed full support for this collaboration, emphasizing that USU remains open to further cooperation in other fields.
The ceremonial signing of the collaboration agreement between the Faculty of Agriculture USU and the JHL Foundation continued at Soeratman Hall and was followed by the implementation of the partnership, which included the awarding of scholarships to 97 Faculty of Agriculture students and a public lecture session.
The public lecture was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, along with Vice Deans I and III, Mr. Jerry Hermawan Lo, the Founder of JHL Merah Putih Foundation, and his foundation management team. Also present were Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs within the Faculty of Agriculture USU and the scholarship recipients.
The scholarship program is an initiative by the JHL Merah Putih Foundation aimed at producing 1,000 Bachelor of Agriculture graduates within five years. As of now, 300 Faculty of Agriculture students have already joined the program.
"We have planned several initiatives, including expanding this program to Universitas Riau (UNRI), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and identifying universities in Eastern Indonesia that require support from our foundation," said Mr. Johan Sembiring, a representative from the JHL Merah Putih Foundation.
Prof. Tavi Supriana, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, expressed his hopes that scholarship recipients will complete their studies successfully and later contribute to the agricultural sector. He also extended his gratitude to Mr. Jerry Hermawan Lo.
"Let’s make the most of this opportunity. Hopefully, today’s public lecture provides valuable knowledge and inspiration for all of us. I am confident that our collaboration with the JHL Merah Putih Kasih Foundation will continue, allowing even more students to receive scholarships and graduate successfully. More than that, we hope they will contribute to the agricultural sector, drive Indonesia’s progress, and strengthen food security. Keep up the enthusiasm, everyone! Thank you to Mr. Jerry, and may Allah SWT bless him abundantly so that he can continue making meaningful contributions to society," said Prof. Tavi.
The public lecture session was moderated by Prof. Ir. Diana Chalil, M.Si., Ph.D., with Mr. Jerry Hermawan Lo as the keynote speaker. Mr. Jerry highlighted that:
"Indonesia possesses extraordinary agricultural commodities. Many agricultural products have the potential to be processed into high-value economic products. Therefore, never lose heart—stay motivated to develop agriculture and advance Indonesia!"
Hopefully, the scholarship program from the JHL Merah Putih Foundation will continue to inspire and support students at the Faculty of Agriculture USU in completing their education and becoming future agricultural leaders
