The Agribusiness Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), once again achieved recognition through one of its students, Fattahiya Fadhillah Siregar. Fattahiya successfully received the Campus Merdeka Bank Indonesia (KMBI) Award in the category of the most popular participant and was among the top 10 participants. This achievement began with Fattahiya's participation in an internship program at Bank Indonesia for 4 months during the even semester of 2020/2021, under the guidance of Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, S.P., M.Ec., a lecturer in the Agribusiness Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

Rulianda explained that the KMBI internship program is part of a collaboration between Bank Indonesia and all universities in Indonesia to support the ‘Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka’ (MBKM) initiative. Before participating in the KMBI program, students are initially selected at the university level, following nominations from their respective academic programs. After the university-level selection, prospective KMBI participants undergo another selection process at the national level.

"USU successfully sent 3 students to participate in the KMBI program, namely Fattahiya Fadhillah, Muhammad Bangun Siregar, and Attania R Sembiring," he stated on Monday, August 23, 2021.
In an effort to produce highly skilled human resources, especially undergraduate graduates who are adaptable to the workforce, the government, through the Ministry of Education and Culture, launched the Campus Merdeka program as a platform for accelerating the enhancement of human resource quality. Bank Indonesia's Campus Merdeka program is a manifestation of its support for the government's efforts to improve the quality of education and human resources.

Rulianda mentioned that the Campus Merdeka Bank Indonesia (KMBI) program is categorized as an internship, although it is based on three main activities: learning, project/research, and working experience. "Learning activities are conducted independently (self-learning) by internship participants. Learning covers central banking materials and other subjects that can be chosen based on the interests and concentration of the intern," he explained. Project/research activities are organized to allow interns to apply their knowledge, acquired through campus learning and self-learning in the LMS-Matrix, to a project/research conducted by the placement unit for interns.

"Working experience activities provide interns with real-world work experience and the opportunity to learn about the culture and work environment at Bank Indonesia," he added. Additionally, interns are also facilitated with other interesting activities to broaden their knowledge to enhance their soft skills during their participation in the KMBI program. To promote teamwork and participation, interns are given the opportunity to organize webinars/sharing sessions, where they take on the role of the main organizers. "Furthermore, during various non-formal activities, such as engagement or enrichment sessions, interns are given the chance to lead events or discussions in those sessions," he clarified.

Through these activities, the KMBI organizers evaluate the level of engagement and activity of the interns beyond the formal activities included in learning, projects/research, and working experience. "To appreciate interns who demonstrate exceptional levels of activity compared to others, the KMBI organizers present an award known as the KMBI AWARD," he concluded.
