It is a proud moment for the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), for successfully maintaining the International Conference of Agriculture, Environment, and Food Security (IC – AEFS) into its seventh year. This year’s conference theme, “Green Economy for Enhancing Food Security, Environmental, and Agricultural Sustainability,” featured four distinguished speakers: Irda Safni, S.P., MCP, Ph.D. from USU; Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustanul Arifin, M.Sc. from Universitas Lampung; Dr. Małgorzata Korzeniowska, Assoc. Prof. from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Poland; and Prof. Anjas Asmara from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The 7th IC – AEFS was especially notable as it coincided with the National Workshop of the Indonesian Forum for Agricultural Higher Education (FKPTPI). The event attracted approximately 200 participants for IC – AEFS and 200 participants for the FKPTPI National Workshop. Held on September 26–27, 2023, at the Aryaduta Hotel in Medan, the program continued with a field trip for FKPTPI participants on September 28–29, 2023, to various iconic destinations in North Sumatra.
USU Rector Prof. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., welcomed the speakers, as well as deans and vice-deans of agriculture faculties from 67 universities across Indonesia. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude for the trust given to the Faculty of Agriculture USU to host the 2023 FKPTPI National Workshop. Additionally, FKPTPI participants were officially welcomed by the Governor of North Sumatra during a dinner reception at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., stated, “The Faculty of Agriculture supports the Rector’s priority programs to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (IKU). Through this conference, lecturers have the opportunity to publish articles and share research findings on an international scale.”
Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng., the FKPTPI Secretary-General, explained that the FKPTPI National Workshop is an annual event aimed at facilitating the exchange of experiences and technologies across regions with diverse agricultural challenges. He also emphasized the importance of this meeting in strengthening the FKPTPI organizational structure, especially given the leadership transition.
