The Undergraduate and Master’s Programs in Animal Science at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a public lecture titled “Developing the Poultry Business and Poultry Future in Indonesia” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in a hybrid format. Drh. Bambang Sutrasno (Regional Head of Sumatra, PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia) was the keynote speaker, emphasizing the importance of synergy between academia and industry. The event aimed to broaden students' insights into the development and future prospects of the poultry industry.

The Undergraduate and Master’s Programs in Animal Science at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a public lecture on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The event was conducted in a hybrid format at the D.H. Penny Hall, Faculty of Agriculture USU.

The lecture carried the theme “Developing the Poultry Business and Poultry Future in Indonesia.” The session was delivered by Drh. Bambang Sutrasno, who serves as the Regional Head of Sumatra at PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia.

 

The event began with opening remarks by the Head of the Master's Program in Animal Science, Dr. Ir. Nevy Diana Hanafi, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM, and was moderated by Dr. Ir. Ma'ruf Tafsin, M.Si., IPM, who also serves as the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Animal Science. The lecture was attended by several program secretaries, lecturers, and students, both on-site and online via Zoom Meeting.
 


In his presentation, Drh. Bambang explained that the poultry industry is developing rapidly and has begun incorporating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, Animal Science students must keep up with industry developments to remain relevant. He emphasized the importance of alignment and synergy between academia and industry so that the curriculum remains applicable to real-world workforce needs.

 

This public lecture was expected to enhance participants' understanding of the poultry business sector, including projections for the industry in 2025. It also aimed to help students start forming clearer career visions for their future after graduating from USU. Thus, it is essential to continuously update and adapt academic content in line with the evolving needs of the industry.
