The OBE Curriculum Development Workshop at Universitas Sumatera Utara's Faculty of Agriculture was successfully conducted with experts from Universitas Brawijaya. The event aimed to improve education quality and prepare for international accreditation.
Medan – FP USU: The Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Development Workshop at the Faculty of Agriculture USU 2022 was successfully held in a hybrid format at the DH. Penny Building Seminar Room on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
The event began with opening remarks and the official opening ceremony by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Lisnawita, S.P., M.Si. The workshop featured a highly qualified speaker in the field.
In the first session, material was presented by Dr. agr. Niunun Barunawati, S.P., M.P., a lecturer and academic at the Plant Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. She delivered a presentation on “The Preparation of Learning Outcomes (CPL), Graduate Competency Profiles, and the Implementation of MBKM.” This session was moderated by Wida Akasah, S.Agr., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture.
The second session continued with the same speaker, who further elaborated on the previous material and conducted a workshop on preparing an OBE curriculum. This session was moderated by Nur Sa’adah, S.ST., M.Agr., also a lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture.
OBE encompasses the entire educational process, including curriculum design, defining goals and learning outcomes, teaching strategies, learning methods, assessment procedures, and the educational ecosystem. In OBE, education focuses on outcomes rather than completing materials. By measuring learning outcomes, OBE enables students to develop new skills that prepare them for global challenges. The process focuses on multi-criteria, including knowledge and skills.
The workshop was enthusiastically attended by lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara. Participants were guided through the process of preparing OBE-based curricula and equipped with knowledge on CPL preparation, graduate competency profiles, MBKM implementation, and related regulations. Each session provided opportunities for discussion and Q&A with the speaker, both online and offline at the DH. Penny Building Seminar Room.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Lisnawita, S.P., M.Si. She expressed hope that the curriculum teams in the study programs, along with program chairs and secretaries, would implement OBE-based curriculum development as delivered in the workshop by Universitas Brawijaya. She emphasized the importance of maintaining high motivation to complete this task successfully, so that in the future, the Faculty of Agriculture USU can follow in Universitas Brawijaya’s footsteps to achieve excellent and international accreditation.
