Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) starts the year by establishing partnerships with various parties. Recently, USU agreed to collaborate with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). The agreement was marked by the Kick-Off and Signing Ceremony of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (Independent Learning-Independent Campus) partnership between USU and BSI, held at Mandiri University, Medan, on Tuesday (01/18/2022).
USU Rector Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., witnessed the signing, which was conducted by the Deans of the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Agriculture, and a representative from the Faculty of Law at USU.
In his speech, the USU Rector expressed his appreciation to BSI for the agreement reached between the two institutions. He hoped that this collaboration would be beneficial for both parties, especially for USU students participating in the MBKM program.
"I thank BSI for accepting and being open to collaborating with USU in implementing this MBKM. I hope the 15 students starting activities here today gain valuable knowledge and experience," said the USU Rector.
Muryanto Amin mentioned that learning while working is becoming a phenomenon among students. Many students are interested in enhancing their knowledge by interning at various companies. Theoretically and practically, educational collaboration is deemed effective in improving student understanding.
"Learning while working is currently trending. The reason is that, as students, working in a company means no layoffs. Besides, learning while working also provides new experiences for students. If they have only listened to lectures in class so far, students will gain experience in dealing with real-world problems," he added.
The USU Rector mentioned that in the world of internships, the theoretical aspect is no longer as taught in class but more about implementing SOPs. Moreover, the knowledge they acquire is applied directly to solve problems.
"What students should achieve through this MBKM program, in my opinion, is discipline, responsibility, and solution-oriented thinking. Students are transitioning from the strict rules of high school to the world of university. With internships, they are taught discipline. This discipline leads to a sense of responsibility. Once ingrained, students can propose innovative, solution-based ideas," explained Muryanto Amin.
He stated that it is the duty of universities to prepare students ready for the workforce. This responsibility is a mandate for parents when sending their children to university.
The event was also attended by the Regional CEO of BSI Region 2 Medan Kemas Erwan Husainy, Area Manager of Medan Raya BSI Puja Nur Arief, Regional Deputy of BSI Region 2 Medan Operation Deputy BSI, as well as the Rector's Expert Staff for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Reni Asmara Ariga, S.Kp., M.A.R.S., and Siti Salmiah, drg., Sp.KGA.
