Medan, July 7, 2026 – The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a delegation from the Korea Nationwide Foreign Workers Social Cooperative (KnF) to explore a potential international partnership focused on strengthening alumni capacity and creating career opportunities in South Korea's fisheries industry.

The KnF delegation was led by Hwangho Shin, Director & Auditor, accompanied by Sudaranta Tarigan. Representing the Faculty of Agriculture were the Vice Dean III, Dr. Ir. Posma Mangasi Pintaria Marbun, M.P.Ket., the Head and Secretary of the Master's Program in Agricultural Resources (MSP), lecturers from the MSP Study Program, and the Dean's Advisory Staff.

The discussion centered on potential collaboration in developing graduate competency enhancement programs, including professional skills development, cultural and workplace orientation, and pathways for alumni placement in South Korea's fisheries sector. The proposed partnership aims to equip graduates with globally competitive competencies while addressing the demand for skilled professionals in the international labor market.

This initiative forms part of the Faculty of Agriculture's commitment to expanding its international partnership network in support of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi). It also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by enhancing graduate competencies and expanding access to decent employment opportunities, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international collaboration that promotes knowledge exchange, capacity building, and mutual benefits for both institutions.

Moving forward, the outcomes of these preliminary discussions are expected to be translated into concrete collaborative initiatives that will further enhance the quality of graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture, USU, while reinforcing the University's contribution to developing globally competitive human resources.
