The PKM-K team from the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully obtained 2026 PKM funding through their innovation TANBIO-BAG, a biodegradable polybag made from oil palm empty fruit bunch biochar and rice husk ash to support environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.

The Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sumatera Utara (Universitas Sumatera Utara) has once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment through one of its student teams securing funding under the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM) in the Entrepreneurship category (PKM-K). This achievement reflects the students’ innovation, creativity, and commitment to developing solutions that benefit both society and the environment.

The PKM-K team from the Faculty of Agriculture USU developed an innovation titled “TANBIO-BAG: Biodegradable Polybag Made from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Biochar and Rice Husk Ash for Eco-Friendly Nursery, Soil Fertility, and Plant Root Resilience.” This program introduces an environmentally friendly polybag made from biochar derived from oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS) and rice husk ash, aiming to support sustainable agriculture while improving the quality of plant nursery media.

The funded team consists of:

The program is supervised by Beatrix Sofranes Napitupulu, S.Agr., M.Agr., who guides idea development, proposal preparation, and the funding selection process.

This achievement is expected to motivate students of the Faculty of Agriculture USU to continue producing impactful innovations and contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and entrepreneurship in sustainable agriculture.

The Faculty of Agriculture USU expresses its appreciation to the entire team and supervising lecturer for their dedication and hard work. May this success become the first step toward greater achievements and lead the PKM-K team to advance to the 2026 National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS).
