The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) cares and has an impact on surrounding problems by conducting Community Service activities at SWASTA HKBP SIDORAME Medan High School by providing solutions and improvements to Sanitation and Water Conservation through the Professor Mengabdi USU Program, Creating a Green, Clean and Flood-Free School Environment.

Professors of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Prof. Dr. Ir. Noverita Sprinse Vinolina, M.P. as Leader along with Dr. Martha Rianna, S.Si conducted community service activities by improving Sanitation and Water Conservation at SWASTA HKBP SIDORAME Medan High School after understanding the problems that occur by discussing with the principal Mrs. Dra. Noralice Simbolon, Chairman of the Foundation Mr. Berman Sidauruk, SH, SpN and the Team.

Professor of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Ir. Noverita Sprinse Vinolina, M.P., said that this school sanitation facility must meet the specified health requirements in order to support the implementation of environmental health around the school, free of flooding and prevent disease transmission in the school environment. The solution provided by the USU Professor is to carry out school environmental management activities to avoid flooding/puddles due to rain or water flow that does not run smoothly by dismantling, repairing, and cleaning water channels that are not smooth and removing garbage that hinders the flow of water. The activity of dismantling and replacing paving blocks that have been damaged and are always stagnant or slow to seep due to closed gaps/pores. Thus, when it rains, water does not seep quickly, causing flooding or puddles around the school.  Several biopore points are made in the paving block area in the schoolyard.  Now, the water flow can run smoothly. 

An unpleasant condition is that one side of the school always floods when it rains, causing disruption to teaching and learning activities.  This problem needs to be overcome by making improvements through casting to increase the height of the floor and installing ceramic flooring on one side of the school's connection to make it look more beautiful. Now the school location of SMA SWASTA HKBP SIDORAME Medan is more beautiful and lovely. This activity started in June to August 2021.

Planting of narrow-topped trees is also carried out due to the limited land available. The presence of green plants will accelerate the process of absorbing water into the soil when it rains. Managing the school environment by planting various ornamental plants will beautify the school. Prof. Dr. Ir. Noverita Sprinse Vinolina, M.P. said that planting trees can create a healthy and green school environment.  Clean and healthy living behavior will have an impact on the physical and spiritual health of all school residents at SMA SWASTA HKBP SIDORAME Medan.  Cleanliness and beauty are supporting factors for optimal growth and development. Hopefully, the Community Service Program carried out by the Universitas Sumatera Utara will bring benefits to the school community of SMA SWASTA HKBP SIDORAME Medan.

Block paving demolition activities are where the conditions before the soil pores are closed so that when it rains, the water does not quickly seep, which causes flooding or puddles around the school. The solution of making biopor is an alternative that is done when installing paving blocks.

Renovation of the water ingress path that often becomes the access of water into the school area by raising the height of the floor through casting and ceramic installation is carried out by increasing the height of about 20-25 cm, renovating the damaged school gate.  The problem of flooding and stagnant water in the crossing area of the school community is no longer stagnant so that the problem can be overcome.

Community service activities in this school take place online and offline, where in this activity there are representatives of students and teachers and the Foundation. This activity was filled with motivation to the school community by Prof. Dr. Ir. Noverita Sprinse Vinolina, M.P. and Dr. Martha Rianna, S.Si.
