The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), participated in the series of activities for the Socialization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Recognition of Learning Programs Outside the Study Program (PLPS) organized by the Directorate of Education Development of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). The activity was held on Monday, August 24, 2026, in the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

The socialization activity was part of USU’s efforts to strengthen understanding and encourage the implementation of the SDGs in higher education. In addition, the activity provided an understanding of the PLPS recognition mechanism as part of curriculum development aimed at creating more flexible and relevant learning opportunities that address students’ educational needs.

The USU Directorate of Education Development had previously conducted the SDGs and PLPS Recognition Socialization in stages across several faculties at USU from July 27 to August 5, 2026. The activities involved Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, with the aim of establishing a shared understanding of SDG implementation and PLPS recognition at the study program level.

At the Faculty of Agriculture, USU, the activity was attended by the leadership of the USU Directorate of Education Development, Prof. Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si.; Secretary of the Directorate, Prof. Ir. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM.; and Directorate Manager Ir. Galih Ari Wirawan Siregar, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., CIT.

Also in attendance were Vice Dean I of FP USU, Dr. Nini Rahmawati, S.P., M.Si.; Vice Dean II of FP USU, Prof. Luthfi Aziz Mahmud Siregar, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D.; as well as the Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs within the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

Through this socialization activity, study programs are expected to gain a stronger understanding of the relationship between the SDGs and educational processes, curricula, and learning activities. This understanding is important in promoting higher education that is not only focused on academic achievement but also contributes to sustainable development.

Meanwhile, strengthening PLPS recognition is expected to provide students with broader learning opportunities through various educational activities outside their study programs. With a clear recognition mechanism, students’ learning experiences can be recognized as part of the academic process in accordance with applicable regulations.

The activity also served as a strategic step toward aligning university academic policies with the learning development needs at the faculty and study program levels. With a shared understanding among university leaders, study program managers, and relevant units, the implementation of SDGs and PLPS is expected to become more effective and support the improvement of education quality at the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

The implementation of the SDGs in education is also aligned with the commitment of higher education institutions to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the provision of inclusive, adaptive, and relevant education that responds to societal needs and global developments.
