USU's Faculty of Agriculture Holds 65th Anniversary and XIIIth Lustrum in Hybrid Mode

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held its 65th Anniversary and 13th Lustrum commemoration on 16 November 2021 in a hybrid manner. The offline implementation was held in the parking lot of the Study Program Building which was broadcast live via zoom and youtube. The commemoration was attended by the USU Rector, deans, and vice deans, heads, and secretaries of study programs in the Faculty of Agriculture, professors, alumni, and the entire academic community of the USU Faculty of Agriculture.

Traditionally, the committee for the Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture is the alumni of FP USU, and for this year's celebration, the alumni of Batch 91 acted as the organizing team, chaired by Gunawan Sutio, S.P. The event began with a committee report represented by Committee Vice Chairman Jenner Sihombing, S.P., M.M., followed by remarks from the Head of the USU Faculty of Agriculture Alumni Association, Ir. Fauzy Yusuf, M.M. 

The next series of events was the speech of the dean of FP USU Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S. at the open session in the framework of the 65th Anniversary and Lustrum XIII of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. In her speech, she said that the theme of the 65th Anniversary and LUSTRUM XIII of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Universitas Sumatera Utara this year was ‘KIAT MENJADI ORGANIK ENTREPRENEUR. The selection of this theme is based on the spirit of the entire academic community and alumni of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara to support the achievement of the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of higher education in terms of achieving the number of students who are entrepreneurs and can get a job under 6 (six) months after graduation. ‘Of course, we must achieve this with the support of the USU Faculty of Agriculture alumni who have spread throughout Indonesia and even internationally and have many contributions, especially in the field of Agriculture and Plantation industry,’ said the Dean of FP USU.

The commemoration of the 65th Anniversary and 13th Lustrum of the USU Faculty of Agriculture was officially opened by the Rector of the University of Sumatra, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. In his speech, the Rector of USU said that there are important insights that the Faculty of Agriculture must do to transform. ‘First, it must transform the curriculum review to meet the independent campus learning independence program (MBKM). Second, the transformation of scientific products from lecturers and students must be directed to achieve downstream and commercialization. The third is transforming into digital citizens for lecturers, students, and education staff. ‘Hopefully, at the age of 65, the Faculty of Agriculture can move more agile. The University will support all efforts made by lecturers and students,’ he said.

In addition, a webinar was also held with the theme ‘KIAT MENADI ORGANIK ENTREPRENEUR’, which presented 5 main speakers, namely Ir. Marolop Nainggolan, MA (Director of Export Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia), Ir. Ali Jamil, M.P., Ph.D (Director of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia), Ir. H. Soekirman (Organic Ambassador of Asia/ALGOA), Batara Siagian, S.P., MAB ( Head of KOMTEX 65-11 Food Crops, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia), and Gunawan Sutio, S.P. ( Head of the Indonesian BIOAGROINPUT Association). This webinar session was moderated by Prof. Dr Ir. Dharma Bakti, MS.

At the end of the event, there was a review of the green house and the signing of the MoU between the USU Faculty of Agriculture and PT Prima Agro Tech, a friendly session and the handover of the committee for the 66th Anniversary in 2022 from class 91 to class 92.
