The student visit to the Gunung Para Plantation and PPK of PTPN III (Persero) took place in the Gunung Para Plantation, Dolok Merawan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra (Saturday, November 26, 2022).
This visit was attended by 90 third-semester students from the Agribusiness Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, accompanied by one Agronomy lecturer, Dr. Ir. Charloq, MP, and six of her assistants. The visit aimed to provide practical knowledge about palm oil and rubber cultivation at PTPN III (Persero).
The visit took place from 08:00 to 13:00 WIB, divided into two groups, each observing different work areas. The work areas observed included rubber seedling locations, rubber TBM, rubber TM, oil palm seedling locations, oil palm TM, rubber TU, and the processing factory.
Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) Holding is a state-owned enterprise engaged in the management, processing, and marketing of plantation products. The commodities cultivated include palm oil, rubber, sugarcane, tea, coffee, cocoa, tobacco, various woods, fruits, and other plants.
The total land area owned by PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) Holding Plantation is 1,181,751.03 hectares, with 68% of the land already certified, 20% with certificates due for renewal, and 12% without certification. The total planted area managed by PTPN III is 817,536 hectares, consisting of palm oil, rubber, tea, sugarcane, coffee, cocoa, tobacco, timber, and horticultural commodities. Additionally, there is a plasma plantation area of 457,794 hectares (www.ptpn3.co.id).
The student visit to the Gunung Para Plantation and PPK of PTPN III (Persero) went smoothly and successfully. The students were enthusiastic in receiving the information shared by each group instructor, who explained each work area in detail. It is hoped that the students from the Faculty of Agriculture will become more capable and competent in the plantation industry, both in terms of knowledge and practical application, through the hands-on experience they gained during the visit to the Gunung Para Plantation and PPK of PTPN III (Persero).
