The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), welcomed a visit from Prof. Bungaran Saragih, a Distinguished Professor at IPB University and former Minister of Agriculture (2001–2004) under the Gotong-Royong Cabinet, along with PT Agrari. The visit aimed to review the progress of a collaborative research project on seedless citrus plants developed through tissue culture at the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a visit from PT Agrari and Prof. Dr. Ir. Bungaran Saragih, M.Ec. on Monday, March 24, 2025.

It was an honor for the Faculty of Agriculture USU to host Prof. Bungaran Saragih, a Distinguished Professor at IPB University and former Minister of Agriculture (2001–2004) under the Gotong-Royong Cabinet. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between PT Agrari and USU faculty members while also reviewing a collaborative research project between FP USU and PT Agrari, conducted by USU students.

The event was attended by Vice Dean II and III of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, along with the Heads of the Agrotechnology and Food Technology undergraduate programs, as well as faculty members and students from Agrotechnology.

Prof. Elisa Julianti, Vice Dean III of FP USU, introduced Prof. Bungaran Saragih to the attending faculty members, some of whom were his former students and alumni of FP USU.

Dr. Nini Rahmawati, Head of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, stated, "We sincerely hope to have a follow-up meeting with Prof. Bungaran in the form of a public lecture."

In his remarks, Prof. Bungaran responded warmly, saying, "I greatly appreciate this warm welcome and would be delighted to return for a public lecture if invited."

The visit concluded with a tour of the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory, where students showcased their research on seedless citrus plants developed through tissue culture in collaboration with PT Agrari.

"It's a blueprint of business—if the seeds are good, the business will run well. However, if the seeds are not right, the business will never function properly. Therefore, if we can develop a stable, seedless citrus variety with consistent taste and high nutritional value, it will be a great advantage. In the future, we hope to introduce seedless citrus from North Sumatra—something that has never been done before in Indonesia." Prof. Bungaran expressed his hopes during the visit.

May this strong partnership between FP USU and PT Agrari continue to benefit both parties. Additionally, we look forward to hosting a public lecture with Prof. Bungaran Saragih and successfully developing seedless citrus plants through tissue culture at FP USU.
