Siti Basyariah Putri Lubis, S.TP., M.Si., a Food Technology lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), won the Best Oral Presentation award at the 4th International Food Research Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for research on the prebiotic potential of maltooligosaccharides derived from orange-fleshed sweet potato. The achievement highlights FP USU’s academic contributions at the international level while strengthening research collaboration between lecturers and students.
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — Siti Basyariah Putri Lubis, S.TP., M.Si., a lecturer in the Food Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), achieved international recognition by winning the Best Oral Presentation award at the 4th International Food Research Conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 18–20, 2026.
The award was presented for her scientific presentation entitled “Prebiotic Potential of Maltooligosaccharides Derived from Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (Beta 1 Variety).” The work was recognized for its quality and contribution to advancing food science research in an international scientific forum.
At the conference, Siti Basyariah Putri Lubis was part of a research and presentation team with Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., a lecturer in the Food Technology Study Program at FP USU, and Melly Nadia, an undergraduate Food Technology student at FP USU. The collaboration between lecturers and students demonstrates FP USU’s commitment to advancing research while providing students with opportunities to participate in academic activities at the international level.
The achievement demonstrates the ability of lecturers and members of the Food Technology Study Program’s academic community at FP USU to produce scientific work recognized at the global level. Participation in international conferences also serves as an important avenue for expanding academic networks and strengthening FP USU’s contribution to the advancement of knowledge in agriculture and food science.
This achievement also reflects FP USU’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening its academic culture, research, and the development of academic community competencies. Participation in international scientific forums also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening cross-border academic collaboration and networks.
Siti Basyariah Putri Lubis’s achievement is expected to inspire lecturers and students at FP USU to remain active in conducting research, collaborating, participating in scientific forums, and bringing the academic works of Universitas Sumatera Utara to national and international platforms.
