The IC-AEFS 2022 conference in Medan discussed sustainable agriculture, featuring 167 papers from academics and practitioners, and Best Presenter awards.

Medan – FP USU: The 6th International Conference on Agriculture, Environment, and Food Security (AEFS) 2022 was successfully held with the theme “Strengthening Sustainable Agriculture for a Better Future” in a hybrid format at Hotel Aryaduta Medan on Thursday, October 27, 2022.


The event began with an opening speech by the Chairperson of the 6th IC-AEFS 2022, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., followed by a welcome speech and the official opening by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.


The first keynote speaker, Prof. Budiman Minasny from The University of Sydney, Australia, presented a topic titled “Digital Agriculture and Technology for Sustainable Agriculture Intensification.” The second keynote speaker, Prof. Henry M. Manik from IPB University, Indonesia, delivered a presentation on “Strengthening Sustainable Fisheries on Blue Economy-Based for Food Security.” The first session of the international conference was moderated by Lukman Adlin Harahap, S.TP., M.Si., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture.


The second and third sessions continued with the third keynote speaker, Prof. Serafim Bakalis from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, who presented a topic titled “Future Foods,” and the fourth keynote speaker, Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, S.P., M.Ec., from Universitas Sumatera Utara, who delivered a presentation on “Why This is Important.” Both sessions were moderated by Riswanti Sigalingging, S.TP., M.Si., Ph.D., also a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture.


This international conference was held in parallel sessions across eight seminar rooms at Hotel Aryaduta Medan. The event attracted 167 papers presented by participants from domestic and international institutions, with diverse backgrounds including academics, researchers, practitioners, and students. Below is the breakdown of the rooms and the participants who presented their papers:

  • Room 1 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 17 authors online and 4 authors offline. The session was moderated by Dr. Lisnawita, S.P., M.Si., with PICs Hafnes Wahyuni, S.P., M.P., and Rahmatika Alfi, S.P., M.Si. Presenters included Rouf, Priyotomo et al., Darsani et al., Wijono et al., Ferdynata, Ika, Saptomo et al., Hendrawan et al., Fitriyanto et al., Zamuco, Thien Hien et al., Ermatov, Khafaji, Zhichkin, Heraini et al., Mirwandhono, Satiagraha et al., Mahendra and Kinding, Sari et al., Allaily et al., and Dalle.
  • Room 2 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 10 authors online and 11 authors offline. The session was moderated by Tasya Chairuna Pane, S.P., M.P., with PICs Kennie Cendekia Desnamrina, S.Pt., M.Pt., and Kristiawan Hadinata Ginting, S.E., M.Si. Presenters included Darus and Lindawati, Arbianti et al., Athaillah and Adib, Cahyaningsih et al., Maryunianta, Marpaung et al., Fatoni, Agustiar et al., Pirngadi, Situmorang, Muzayyanah et al., Rizieq et al., Tamburaka, Sianturi et al., Purwoko et al., Junita et al., Ginting et al., and Purnomo.
  • Room 3 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 11 authors online and 10 authors offline. The session was moderated by Dr. Ir. Ma’ruf Tafsin, M.Si., with PICs Uswatun Hasanah, S.Pt., M.Si., and Peni Patriani, S.Pt., M.P. Presenters included Albarki et al., Hasanah, Agustin et al., Hasibuan, Sumantri et al., Patriani, Rumahorbo et al., Litvinenko, Saili, Hussin and Azmir, Harahap, Ginting, Yendraliza, Hardamin et al., Desrita, and Setiawan et al.
  • Room 4 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 18 authors online and 4 authors offline. The session was moderated by Dr. Nauas Domu Marihot Romauli, S.TP., M.Eng., with PICs Astrid Fauzia Dewinta, S.St.Pi., M.Si., and Edy Syahputra Harahap, S.TP., M.Si. Presenters included Rizka, Soebagiyo et al., Bungsu et al., Saputia, Khasanah, Hamidah et al., Apiilia, Zhao, Muhamediyeva and ’Ukhtamuiadov, Yuii, Handayani et al., and Abus et al.
  • Room 5 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 11 authors online and 10 authors offline. The session was moderated by Ir. Hotnida Sinaga, M.Phil., Ph.D., with PICs Syahira Addina, S.Pi., M.Si., and Fuad Hasan, S.Pt., M.Si. Presenters included Wijaya and Surya, Efendi et al., Nurminah, Hariadi, Siahaan, Sinaga, Darmanyan et al., Tarigan, and Harahap.
  • Room 6 was conducted in a hybrid format, with 12 authors online and 9 authors offline. The session was moderated by Ir. Revandy Iskandar Muda Damanik, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., with PICs Nur Ulina Warnisyah, S.P., M.Agr., and Nursa’adah, S.ST., M.Agr. Presenters included Malau, Hasanah, Nurdin et al., Hasanah, and Rahmawati et al.
  • Room 7 was conducted offline. The session was moderated by Putri Chandra Ayu, S.TP., M.Si., with PICs Vindy Rilani Manurung, S.Pi., M.P., and Ir. Achmad Sadeli, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM. Presenters included Ayu, Harahap et al., Sigalingging, Br Sebayang and Panggabean, Maharani, Nasution, Tarigan, Hartono, Yusuf et al., Sutariati, Vinolina, and Lubis et al.
  • Room 8 was conducted offline. The session was moderated by Dr. Ir. Yaya Hasanah, M.Si., with PICs Wida Akasah, S.Agr., M.Sc., and Julia Syahriani Hasibuan, S.Pi., M.Si. Presenters included Siregar et al., Sarifuddin, Munir, Chairuman et al., Meiriani, Hannum, Sidauruk, Hidayat et al., Wahyuni, Akasah and Chou, Damanik, and Hibatullah.


At the end of the conference, the Best Presenter awards were announced: Johanna Simanihuruk from Universitas Sumatera Utara as Best Student Presenter and Budi Harianto Tarigan from Universitas Sumatera Utara as Best General Presenter. The event was officially closed by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., who expressed her hope that the conference would bring significant benefits to society and invited everyone to participate in the 7th IC-AEFS 2023.
