PPK Ormawa IMASPERA USU in Desa Faekhuna focuses on coral transplantation to revitalize marine ecosystems affected by oil spills.
The Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) conducted by IMASPERA (Aquatic Resources Management Student Association) of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, was successfully held in Desa Faekhuna, North Nias Regency, North Sumatra Province. Under the theme "Maritime Village," this program centered on the movement "One House, One Coral Transplantation" as a preventive and revitalization effort for coral reef ecosystems impacted by oil spills in the area. The program aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems as a vital source for sustainable livelihoods in coastal villages.
Guided by supervisor Vindy Rilani Manurung, S.Pi., M.P., and led by Hilal Idama Dalimunthe, the program involved local residents in the coral transplantation process. This community-based approach was not only designed to rehabilitate damaged coral reef ecosystems but also to empower the local community in protecting their marine environment.
