Six students of the Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), who are members of the Kasgotrela Innovation team, achieved an accomplishment at the Indonesia International Invention Expo (IIIE) 2026. The team won a Gold Medal and ICGI Special Award through the Magglo Nutri Scan innovation.
This achievement is one of the accomplishments of the students of the Faculty of Agriculture USU in developing innovative ideas originating from problems in the surrounding environment. Through the innovation they developed, Kasgotrela Innovation seeks to demonstrate that something previously considered waste can be processed into something that has value and benefits (worth), particularly for the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Magglo Nutri Scan was developed from the team's desire to view problems as opportunities to create innovative solutions. The idea was developed with the spirit of utilizing something that previously had little value into an innovation that can provide benefits and support needs in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.
This spirit served as the foundation for Kasgotrela Innovation in participating in the Indonesia International Invention Expo 2026, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA). At the event, the Magglo Nutri Scan innovation received recognition through the Gold Medal and ICGI Special Award.
The Kasgotrela Innovation team consists of Andrean Refaldho Sembiring (240302051), Fitri Aulia (230302022), Anisa Putri (230302049), Allysa Nadira Zahra (230302028), Dzaki Fathlullah (240302031), and Lilian Tesa Olivia Manik (240302064). The team received guidance from Vindy Rilani Manurung, S.Pi., M.P., as their supervising lecturer.
For Kasgotrela Innovation, the awards received are not the end of the journey, but rather serve as motivation to continue developing innovations and presenting solutions with broader benefits. The achievement also demonstrates that student creativity and innovation can be developed from simple problems found in the surrounding environment into ideas capable of receiving recognition at innovation events.
Through the spirit of “From Waste to Worth”, Kasgotrela Innovation demonstrates an effort to change the way something considered worthless is viewed into an opportunity to generate benefits. This spirit also demonstrates the role of students in promoting the development of innovations that can support the sustainability of the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
The achievement of Kasgotrela Innovation is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the development of knowledge- and creativity-based innovation by students to produce solutions with the potential to provide added value to the agricultural and fisheries sectors. In addition, the From Waste to Worth concept is also related to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, particularly in encouraging more optimal and sustainable resource utilization. This achievement is part of the contribution of Faculty of Agriculture USU students to strengthening a culture of innovation while producing ideas with the potential to have a positive impact on society and the environment.
