FP USU participated in the 2022 Fortified Food Monitoring FGD organized by BBPOM Medan, focusing on the implementation of fortified cooking oil, wheat flour, and iodized salt in North Sumatra.

Medan – FP USU: The Faculty of Agriculture, represented by Vice Dean III, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., attended the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Fortified Food Monitoring for 2022. The event was organized by the Medan National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) and took place in person at the Grand Mercure Hotel Medan on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

This activity aimed to discuss the monitoring and implementation of fortification for cooking oil, wheat flour, and iodized salt in North Sumatra Province. It also served as a platform to disseminate the monitoring results to regional governments and stakeholders.

The FGD featured speakers from various institutions, including the North Sumatra Provincial Office of Industry and Trade, Medan BBPOM, the Secretary of the Master of Public Health Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), and the Regional Board of the Indonesian Public Health Expert Association (IAKMI) North Sumatra.

The event also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Medan BBPOM and Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan. Additionally, a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was signed between Medan BBPOM and USU's Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Public Health.

Through this Focus Group Discussion, it is hoped that the quality and quantity of food in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra Province, can be adequately met. This collaboration is expected to serve as a platform for discussion and solutions to address current food-related issues. Ultimately, the implementation of fortification for cooking oil, wheat flour, and iodized salt in North Sumatra can be realized optimally.
