The Himadita Nursery Student Activity Unit of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held the National Seminar “Communication Skills: Speaking Up, Building Character, Influencing Others” at the USU Auditorium on 30 November 2025, attended by students from various universities in Medan and featuring national speaker Sherly Annavita Rahmi.

The Himadita Nursery Student Activity Unit of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a National Seminar with the theme “Communication Skills: Speaking Up, Building Character, Influencing Others” at the Universitas Sumatera Utara Auditorium. The event was attended by students from various universities in Medan, including ITSI, Universitas Senior Medan, Universitas Medan Area, UISU, UMSU, and Universitas Al-Wasliyah.

 

The seminar featured Sherly Annavita Rahmi, a content creator, youth motivator, and founder of SEA Indonesia who focuses on developing public speaking skills. She is also known as a social activist with a number of achievements, including Best Delegate AWMUN 2018 and winner of NAILA 2017.


 

In her presentation, Sherly highlighted the urgency of communication skills in various aspects of professional and social life. The material was delivered comprehensively and interactively, encouraging active participation from the audience. Two participants had the opportunity to practice speaking techniques directly before the audience, which enhanced the dynamics and effectiveness of the learning process.

 

The seminar also featured entertainment by the local band Sandwitch, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event. The program was hosted by Bikram Yash Bhullar, a Language Ambassador, who served as the master of ceremonies.

 

As a form of appreciation, the committee provided 11 goodie bags and two grand prizes in the form of a scholarship worth Rp3,000,000 and a tour package to Singapore, awarded through a raffle based on participants’ ticket numbers. At the end of the event, all participants received hard-copy certificates of attendance.

 

The organization of this seminar aimed to develop character-based communication skills among students, expand collaborative networks across universities, and enhance the capacity of young generations in expressing ideas effectively, ethically, and influentially. This activity is expected to contribute to shaping students as competent agents of change ready to face future challenges.
