Medan–USU: "Good teamwork is essential to develop a region, especially North Sumatra. This also applies to the Academic Community of Universitas Sumatera Utara in striving to improve the university further," stated the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Gen. (Ret.) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, during a public lecture titled "Pembangunan wilayah yang berbasis hukum, politik dan keamanan"(Regional Development based on Law, Politics, and Security), The lecture, held on Monday, July 25, 2016, at the USU Student Arena Building, was attended by the entire academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara.
Also present at the event were the USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., Vice Rector II of USU, Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked. (OG) SpOG(K), the Director of the USU Graduate School, Prof. Robert Sibarani, M.S., representatives of the North Sumatra Provincial Government, members of the USU University Welfare Board, Academic Senate of USU, the Head of the USU General Affairs Bureau, USU alumni, and USU postgraduate students.
Luhut Panjaitan also discussed the Government's Current Development Efforts and Strategies, including Equitable Development, particularly outside Java Island, enhancing competitiveness, and transforming commodities towards industrial orientation. "One example of a development strategy is allocating funds for village development," he revealed. "According to data, the allocation of development funds in each village in Indonesia tends to increase annually."
On this occasion, Luhut Panjaitan also touched on the government's ongoing Tax Amnesty program. "The tax amnesty aims to collect a taxation database for long-term tax revenue improvement and enhancement of the IT tax system. With the achievement of the Tax Amnesty objectives, the government can regulate tax rate reductions and strengthen the enforcement of Tax Law," added Luhut.
The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., in his opening remarks at the public lecture, expressed his gratitude to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs for his visit and insights provided to the academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara. "We thank the Minister, who, despite his busy schedule, has taken the time to deliver this public lecture to the entire Academic Community of Universitas Sumatera Utara," said the USU Rector.
