Following up on the visit and discussion of the dean of the USU Faculty of Agriculture with Lapakbuah.com regarding the development of the Fruit and Horticultural Village Area last Wednesday (15/9/2021), the USU group consisting of USU Vice Rector 3 Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan S.Si., M.Si., Apt, Secretary of the USU Community Service Institute Meutia Nauly, S.Psi, M.Si, Psychologist, Vice Dean 3 of the USU Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti M.Si., and Destanul Aulia SKM., MBA., MEc., Ph.D from the USU Faculty of Public Health visited Lapakbuah.com headquarters at the Tiga Juhar Fruit Farm, STM Hulu District, Deli Serdang Regency last Saturday (18/9/2021). This meeting was also attended by the Head of STM Hulu Sub-District, several village heads, and representatives from Bank Sumut.
In his speech, Ir. M. Zein Ginting (Founder of Lapakbuah.com) explained that there are 7 villages that will be initiated as Integrated Agribusiness Areas namely Liang Pematang Village, Liang Muda Village, Tanjung Raja Village, Tanjung Muda Village, Bah Buntu Village, Durian Tinggung Village, and Rumah Lih Village which are administratively located in STM Hulu District, Deli Serdang Regency. The purpose of the Integrated Agribusiness Area is to improve the economy and welfare of the community, the majority of whom are farmers. The commodities raised will be salak, longan, avocado, and durian, which are highly productive. Furthermore, Ir. M. Zein Ginting explained that his party needs direction and guidance from academics and researchers to develop concepts for the Integrated Agribusiness Area. “We need help in designing a masterplan to build an Integrated Agribusiness Area in the short, medium, and long term as well as assistance from upstream to downstream that is sustainable until the goals related to this Integrated Agribusiness Area can be achieved,” he explained.
Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan S.Si., M.Si., Apt, agreed with the request. “Indeed, there is a need for triple helix cooperation between entrepreneurs-government and academics, and even now it has widened to a penta helix where academics, government, business, communities, and mass media must work together.” Based on his explanation, so far, there has also been cooperation with Liang Pematang Village because, at that time, there was a direction to do community service in remote areas, and Liang Pematang Village was one of them. “In the future, it is necessary to coordinate with the sub-district regarding information and data such as technology needs, assistance, technical methods, and so on. Because each village must have its characteristics/specifications.” Not only that, according to him, the support of other fields of science such as social-humanities, psychology, and even economics is also needed to succeed in the Integrated Agribusiness Area program. “This is a common dream, and I also feel that this is our common dream because we see that our fruit potential is large and rich. We should be able to eat what we grow ourselves and even export it. Hopefully, this plan will be realized successfully,” concluded the USU Vice Rector III.
Meutia Nauly, S.Psi, M.Si, Psychologist, as secretary of LPPM USU, also agreed that there are many fields of science that can be involved in building this Integrated Agribusiness Area. According to him, there are many things we can do through collaboration and coordination in various fields of science. This is also in line with the ideals of LPPM USU in building assisted villages, namely to encourage the strengthening and acceleration of village independence. In addition, according to him, assistance must also be carried out in stages, starting from pertaining to women's groups and youth organizations. “The existence of tiered assistance will be able to create strong village cadres to mobilize their villages so that they can provide many benefits. Ladies and gentlemen who know the condition of their villages best, so if combined, the results will be very good,” he said.
In the same place, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti M.Si. expressed the readiness of FP USU in helping the realization of the Integrated Agribusiness Area. He also agreed that the support of science fields such as social, economics, communication, and social welfare is needed because of the complexity of the problems faced. “We are ready to help develop a master plan and assist in various forms related to agricultural issues. Not only in terms of research and community service but also in terms of education, can be helped through mbkm programs, one of which focuses on villages.” Through this program, students can also play an active role in helping the realization of the Integrated Agribusiness Area. Regarding the master plan, he said that the village should make a list of potentials related to the village so that the campus can provide assistance based on potential and priority scale.
In addition, Destanul Aulia SKM, MBA, MEc, Ph.D from the USU Faculty of Public Health also advised that all parties must focus on the potential and ideas that will be poured into the master plan so that later the program can be well organized and harmonized. “We can really practice the Three Pillars of Research, Community Service, and Education here. Our task is to shape and run these three things in synchronization.” Previously, his party had already done community service in Pematang Liang Village and produced 5 programs: Tourism Village, Agribusiness Village, Healthy Village, Medicinal Plant Village, and Smart Village. Based on this experience, he drew the conclusion that these villages have strong social cohesion, so he believes this program will run well when it is implemented later.
On this occasion, Bank Sumut also provided input related to financing/finance for the implementation of the Integrated Agribusiness Area of Upper STM District. The event on Saturday was closed by farm trip activities at the Tiga Juhar Fruit Farm.
