The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held the 2025 PKKMB PSDKU North Nias Campus online on Thursday (18/9). The event was opened by USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., who emphasized USU’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education in remote areas.

USU FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE – The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully held the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) of the Off-Campus Study Program (PSDKU) North Nias Campus 2025 on Thursday (18/9), online via Zoom.

 

The event was officially opened by USU Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., who represented the Rector of USU. In his remarks, he emphasized USU’s commitment to expanding access to higher education in remote, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) areas.

“Once again, we want to emphasize that the presence of Universitas Sumatera Utara in North Nias is to realize and expand access to quality higher education to 3T regions. This is a strategic step to ensure that the nation’s best young people have equal opportunities to pursue higher education, develop their potential, and contribute to building the region and the nation,” said Prof. Edy Ikhsan.

 

Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Lisnawita, S.P., M.Si., reported that this year’s PKKMB PSDKU North Nias was attended by 12 new students, consisting of six students from the Agrotechnology Study Program and six students from the Aquatic Resource Management Study Program.

 

“This is the fifth PKKMB we have held online. Even though it is through Zoom, our enthusiasm to work and achieve does not diminish. Hopefully, students can complete their studies on time and someday visit the Medan campus directly,” said Prof. Lisnawita.


 

Meanwhile, the Regent of North Nias, Amizaro Waruwu, S.Pd., M.I.P., represented by Yusman Zega, A.Pi., M.Si., advised students not only to pursue a bachelor’s degree but also to make a real impact on society.

 

“As students, you must become agents of change, drivers, and pioneers in providing solutions to various challenges. The education obtained at this PSDKU campus must positively impact the quality of human resources in North Nias Regency,” emphasized Yusman Zega.

 

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, MS., also motivated students to take their education seriously.

“We want to ensure your learning success so you can graduate on time in eight semesters. Hopefully, PSDKU graduates can contribute to improving the economy of North Nias,” said Prof. Tavi Supriana.

 

In addition to the opening remarks, PKKMB 2025 also featured several sessions delivered by lecturers and speakers:

  • M. Azis Rizky Lubis, S.S., MA. – National Character Building, Global Leadership, and National Defense Awareness.

  • Dina Nazriani, S.Psi., M.A. – Students as Agents of Change: Building a Green Campus for a Sustainable Future.

  • Suri Mutia Siregar, S.Psi., M.Psi. – Strengthening BINTANG Character and Excellent Students with Global Competitiveness Orientation.

  • Hayatunnufus, S.Kom., M.Cs. – Transformation of Higher Education in the Digital Era, Industrial Revolution, and Society 5.0.

  • Dr. Ir. Razali, MP. – Introduction to the Agrotechnology Study Program.

  • Julia Syahriani Hasibuan, S.Pi., M.Si. – Introduction to the Aquatic Resource Management Study Program.

  • Ir. Galih Ari Wirawan Siregar, S.Pt., M.Si. – P2MW Program.

  • Masniari, S.Pi. – PPK Ormawa.
     

 

Students were also introduced to student organizations such as HMJ Himagrotek, HMJ Imaspera, and BEM Faculty of Agriculture USU.

 

The event concluded with a thank-you note from Vice Dean I, Prof. Dr. Lisnawita, S.P., M.Si., to all committees, local leaders, lecturers, staff, and students involved in the organization.

 

“Alhamdulillah, the PKKMB event ran smoothly. May today’s enthusiasm continue until you all complete your studies at the Faculty of Agriculture,” said Prof. Lisnawita.

 

With the successful implementation of PKKMB 2025, it is hoped that new students of PSDKU Faculty of Agriculture USU North Nias Campus can adapt well to the academic environment, foster a learning spirit, and complete their studies on time. The Faculty also hopes that students can become agents of change who contribute positively to the development of North Nias and Indonesia.
