Medan, October 1, 2026 – The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), became part of the SINTA USU Roadshow series organized by the Directorate of Scientific Writing, Publication, and Publishing USU. Carrying the theme “Synchronization & Updating of SINTA Data,” the activity was held at the Seminar Room of the DH Penny Building, FP USU, and was attended by all FP USU lecturers.

The activity featured Ahmad Rizal, S.I.Kom., Staff of Scientific Writing and Publication at the Directorate of Scientific Writing, Publication, and Publishing USU, as the speaker. He explained the importance of ensuring that publication and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) data are recorded completely and accurately in the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) profile. The data forms part of the academic record, supports grant opportunities, strengthens institutional reputation, and ensures that ownership of works is properly documented.

In his presentation, it was explained that SINTA collects data from several sources linked to lecturers' accounts, including Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Google Scholar, Garuda, and the National Library (Perpusnas). Basic profile data are synchronized with PDDIKTI, while SINTA is also connected to SISTER. Because synchronization does not always occur automatically, lecturers need to update their data periodically so that the latest publications, author identities, affiliations, and IPR can be recorded correctly.

Lecturers were directed to update their profiles through Update Profile and Sync PDDIKTI, ensure that their Scopus, Garuda, WoS, and Publons IDs are linked, and then synchronize publications through the My SINTA menu. Each document needs to be checked to ensure that there are no duplicate publications or works belonging to other authors. IPR data also need to be checked through the IPR section and matched with the certificates or registration documents held.

The activity also explained that synchronization requests can only be submitted once every seven days, while changes in SINTA scores are not always immediately visible because calculations are carried out periodically. Differences in name formatting across publication sources can also hinder document mapping. If publications or IPR have not yet appeared or the data are inaccurate, lecturers can coordinate with the verifiers for examination and correction.

Through this activity, FP USU lecturers were encouraged to ensure five main aspects of their SINTA profiles: the latest publications have been displayed, the affiliation is listed as Universitas Sumatera Utara, there are no duplicate documents or works belonging to other people, IPR has been recorded completely, and publication source IDs have been linked correctly.

The SINTA USU Roadshow at FP USU supports the strengthening of SDG 4: Quality Education through improving lecturers' capacity and management of academic records, as well as SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through strengthening the ecosystem of research, scientific publication, and intellectual property. Accurate updating of SINTA data is expected to further support academic performance management and the development of innovation within USU.
