The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), funded by the Institute for Community Service (LPPM) USU, has established a strategic collaboration with the Government of Asahan Regency and Ubay Farm to modernize the sheep farming sector in Sidodadi Village, Kisaran District. The program, which runs from July to December 2026, aims to promote the downstreaming of livestock products based on efficiency and hygiene while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The potential of the livestock farming center in Asahan, located 156 km from Medan City, has been hampered by manual carcass cutting methods, which cause inconsistent sizes, limited production capacity, and sanitation risks. These conditions have made farmers' income highly dependent on seasonal cycles such as Aqiqah and Eid al-Adha.

As a form of regional commitment, the Regent of Asahan (Taufik Zainal Abidin, S.Sos., M.Si.), the Regional Secretary of Asahan Regency (Drs. Zainal Aripin Sinaga, M.H.), and the Asahan Regency Livestock and Animal Health Office, led by drh. Yusnani, have expressed their readiness to provide full support for the sustainability of this downstreaming program. The support from the local government strengthens the implementation of the precision technology BandMeat Cutter introduced by the USU academic team, which aims to reduce processing time by up to 30% while ensuring that carcasses meet the standards of Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal (ASUH).

The program is led by Ir. Mhd Adanan Purba, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., together with a team of experts consisting of Dr. Ir. Nurzainah Ginting, M.Sc. (Livestock Product Technology), Ir. Lanti Yulianti Rebecca Sitohang, M.Sc. (Livestock Production), and Vira Irma Sari, M.Si. (Plant Cultivation & Microgreens). Through this collaboration, farmers are trained to process sheep meat into meatballs, nuggets, and sausages integrated with microgreens to increase nutritional value and market competitiveness in the modern market.

This community service activity also actively involves five students of the Undergraduate Program in Animal Science of USU, namely Diki Mars Tarigan, Lusiano Bandares Tarigan, Anggraini Liesni Waruwu, Ahmad Riyandi Manullang, and Aufa, as a form of field-based learning. The assistance, which includes the implementation of operational SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), received a warm response from the leadership of Ubay Farm, Fauzi Aldani Sinaga, S.H. Overall, this Penta Helix synergy makes a tangible contribution to the global SDGs agenda, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty) through increasing farmers' income, SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through the provision of nutritious and hygienic food, and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the application of technology-based innovation in rural areas.
