The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara once again received Day-Old Chicks (DOC) from PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Prior to the delivery, preparations of the chicken house—including environmental and temperature settings—had already been completed. The DOCs will be raised for 3–4 weeks in the closed house facility of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
This delivery marks the 12th broiler rearing cycle. Representatives from Charoen Pokphand in attendance included Mr. Bambang Sutrasno (Head of Sumatra Region), Mr. Raja Aman, Mr. Elwin, and Mr. Bastian. The Faculty of Agriculture was represented by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Tavi Supriana, MS; the Head of the Undergraduate Animal Science Program, Dr. Ir. Ma'ruf Tafsin, M.Si., IPM; and the Secretary of the Program, Ir. Achmad Sadeli, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM., ASEAN.Eng.
This Chick-In coincided with the implementation of the MBKM internship program in collaboration with the Animal Science study program. The internship partnership with Charoen Pokphand has been ongoing since February 2025. A total of 14 students are participating in this internship at the closed house facility, engaging in all stages of the broiler production cycle—from house preparation and rearing to harvest and cleaning for the next cycle.
It is hoped that the collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara and Charoen Pokphand will continue to grow, bringing mutual benefits to both parties.
