Karo, North Sumatra – Students of the Undergraduate Program in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (TPB), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), carried out the 2026 Regular Community Service Program (KKN) in Raya Village, Berastagi District, and Kutarayat Village, Naman Teran District, Karo Regency.

Through the KKN activities, students implemented their knowledge of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering through various agricultural, environmental, and community empowerment activities. In Raya Village, students developed the utilization of flower, fruit, and vegetable waste into liquid organic fertilizer and compost, while also processing floriculture waste into value-added decorative bar soap.
Meanwhile, in Kutarayat Village, students were involved in agricultural cultivation and post-harvest activities, making trash bins from used drums, environmental management, producing liquid organic fertilizer from cabbage waste, banana peels, and eggshells, as well as various social and community education activities.

The series of activities demonstrated the commitment of TPB FP USU students to connecting academic knowledge with the real needs of the community while encouraging more effective and sustainable resource utilization.
This KKN activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the reduction and utilization of agricultural waste into useful products. In addition, the activities contribute to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
