Medan – FP USU: A hybrid workshop on Scientific Writing and Popular Article Publication in Mass Media was successfully held at the Seminar Room, DH. Penny Building.
The event began with opening remarks and the official inauguration by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Lisnawita, S.Pt., M.Si. The workshop featured three expert speakers.
The first speaker, Muheri Indra Aja Nasution, S.Pt., an accomplished alumnus of the Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, delivered a presentation on Systematics, Idea Development, and Scientific Writing Publication. The session was moderated by Peni Patriani, S.Pt., M.P., from the Faculty of Agriculture.
In this session, participants were introduced to the concept of scientific writing. Scientific writing is created by individuals or groups to solve problems based on theoretical frameworks and scientific methods. It typically contains data, facts, and solutions related to a specific issue, written systematically and coherently.
The second speaker, Rizky Fahlevi, S.Agr., an accomplished alumnus of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, discussed Motivation for Writing and Presentation Tips for LKTI Competitions. The session was moderated by Hafnes Wahyuni, S.P., M.P., a lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture.
During this session, the speaker shared numerous tips, tricks, and motivation for writing and presenting. He emphasized that the keys to success in competitions are determination, confidence, effort, perseverance, consistency, and parental blessings. He further encouraged participants by saying, "Everyone who works hard and prays has their own timeline to success," he confidently stated.
The third speaker, Prof. Dr. Drs. Budi Agustono, M.S., a Professor of History from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, presented on Writing Popular Articles for Mass Media. The session was moderated by R.B. Moh. Ibrahim Fatoni, S.Pi., M.P., a lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture.
In this session, the speaker encouraged participants to remain productive and passionate about writing, anytime and anywhere, even if it’s just a few sentences. He highlighted the importance of observing the surroundings, nurturing curiosity, and paying attention to topics like tourism, traffic, community life, forests, regional atmospheres, markets, and more.
The workshop was enthusiastically attended by students from the Faculty of Agriculture. Participants were clearly guided on how to write scientific papers and popular articles for mass media. Each session also included opportunities for discussions and Q&A with the speakers, both online and offline at the Seminar Room, DH. Penny Building.
The event concluded with closing remarks from the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Lisnawita, S.Pt., M.Si. In her closing speech, she expressed her hope that participants would gain valuable knowledge from the workshop and become future achievers like the alumni speakers featured in the event.
