The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), through the Undergraduate Program in Agribusiness, held Capital Market School Level 1 as a platform to improve students’ financial literacy and understanding of the capital market while introducing smart and responsible investment opportunities. The activity was held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Suratman Hall, Faculty of Agriculture USU.

The activity, which began at 09:00 WIB, featured the Head of the North Sumatra Representative Office of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Muhammad Pintor Nasution, S.E., M.Si., CFP., CIB., AWP., and Investment Specialist at PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia–Medan, Nurul Izzati Lubis, S.E., CFP. The activity was moderated by Vista Uli Sihombing, S.P., M.Si., a lecturer of the Undergraduate Program in Agribusiness, FP USU.
In his presentation, themed “Smart Investing, a Quality Future!”, Muhammad Pintor Nasution explained the importance of preparing for the future through sound financial management. He introduced various capital market instruments, such as stocks, bonds, sukuk, and mutual funds, and explained the potential benefits and risks of each instrument.

According to him, investment can be one option for maintaining and increasing the value of assets over the long term. However, prospective investors need to understand the characteristics of investment instruments and their risk profiles before making investment decisions.
“To be honest, I only learned about the capital market after I graduated. If you have already received this lesson today and USU has introduced it from an early stage, then if you remain consistent and focused, you can become a successful investor,” he said.
Meanwhile, through her presentation entitled “Understanding the Capital Market, Starting Investments, and Building Long-Term Wealth,” Nurul Izzati Lubis explained the importance of building assets from a young age by considering inflation, financial goals, investment horizons, and risk profiles.
She explained the differences between saving and investing, as well as various risks that investors need to consider, such as market, liquidity, inflation, company, and psychological risks. To start investing, participants were encouraged to determine their goals, establish an investment horizon, understand their risk profile, choose suitable instruments, start gradually, and conduct regular evaluations.
The presentations by the two speakers were followed by an interactive and enthusiastic discussion session. Participants came not only from the Undergraduate Program in Agribusiness but also from several other faculties within Universitas Sumatera Utara. Various questions were raised, ranging from how students can start investing to selecting investment instruments and managing investment risks.
The participants’ enthusiasm became even more evident when the two speakers gave prizes to participants who actively asked questions and successfully answered questions posed during the activity. The session not only broadened participants’ knowledge but also created a more dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere.
The Head of the Undergraduate Program in Agribusiness, FP USU, also expressed appreciation for the organization of the activity. She/He hoped that the Capital Market School would increase students’ knowledge of the capital market and investment while encouraging them to actively engage in discussions and deepen their understanding.

“I am very grateful for this event and would like to thank both of our speakers for their willingness to share their knowledge and for attending,” she/he said.
Closing the activity, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, S.P., M.Ec., emphasized the importance of students having goals and objectivity in determining their future steps, including when making investment decisions.
“Do not live without goals, do not live without objectives. Believe me, if you are objective, four years from now you will be successful,” he stated.
The Dean also hoped that the Capital Market School series would help students become wiser in selecting investment instruments. The knowledge gained through agribusiness education is expected to serve as a foundation for understanding various economic and investment opportunities critically and objectively.
As a form of appreciation for their contributions and willingness to share knowledge, the Faculty of Agriculture USU presented certificates and souvenirs to Muhammad Pintor Nasution and Nurul Izzati Lubis as speakers. The presentation of these tokens of appreciation marked the closing of the Capital Market School Level 1 series of activities.
The organization of Capital Market School Level 1 was part of FP USU’s efforts to strengthen financial literacy and equip students with practical knowledge relevant to their future needs. The activity also supported the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) on Quality Education through increasing students’ knowledge and skills, as well as the eighth SDG (SDG 8) on Decent Work and Economic Growth through strengthening financial literacy and understanding of responsible investment.
