Members of the Bener Meriah District Parliament of Aceh Province conducted a working visit to Universitas Sumatera Utara’s campus on Friday, November 11, 2016. The visit was received by Vice Rector III Mahyuddin, Ph.D., and Ir. Yedi Suhaedi, M.Si. (Head of the Research, Community Service, and Cooperation Bureau) in his office at the BPA USU building on the Padang Bulan Medan campus.
The chairman of the Bener Meriah District Parliament, Guntarayadi, S.P., who led a team of members of Commissions C and D, said that their visit to Universitas Sumatera Utara was to explore several areas of cooperation related to education issues, especially for their district. He said that Bener Meriah District currently has problems with the quality of education. For this reason, he said, exploring this cooperation is an urgent need, especially for education for the district to progress and develop.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector III Mahyuddin, Ph.D., said that this exploration is the beginning for both institutions to improve the quality of education, especially for USU, which needs this to improve its accreditation. In the future, there are three areas that need to be jointly collaborated, namely the fields of education, research, and community service. From these three areas, it will be seen which one is the most important to be collaborated on as soon as possible.
For this reason, Mahyuddin said, the campus will continue to coordinate between the two parties regarding the matter. For USU, the possibility that will be worked on is the student KKN program which is spread in several areas including in Bener Meriah District, Aceh.
Both Mahyuddin and Guntarayadi hope that this exploration will continue in a better direction in future cooperation. And it does not stop at just one field, but also in other fields, namely with several faculties at USU and several sections of the District Government agencies.
