Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering

Undergraduate Program (S-1)

The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Undergraduate Program in Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering is a study program that focuses on the application of technology and engineering in the agricultural sector. The focus is on planning, designing, and managing systems related to agricultural production and the agricultural environment. It considers environmental impacts, sustainability, and resource efficiency in agricultural practices that support innovations in agricultural technology, increased crop and livestock production, and contribute to food security and environmental sustainability.

This study program has been established since 1964 and is one of the oldest study programs at USU. The curriculum covers various fields of learning, including biosystem mechanical engineering, food processing engineering, and bioinformatics engineering, with a commitment to produce qualified graduates who are able to compete at the global level. Graduates of the Undergraduate Program in Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering have extensive career opportunities in various food industries and manufacturing. After completing this study program, students will obtain a Bachelor of Engineering (S.T.) degree.

History

1964/1965

The Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering (PS TEP) was opened in 1965. Previously, this study program was part of the scientific concentration of the Department of Agricultural Technology at the USU Faculty of Agriculture. Initially, the Department of Agricultural Technology consisted of two concentrations of science, namely the concentration of Agricultural Product Technology and the concentration of Agricultural Mechanization.

1996

The Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Mechanization changed to the Undergraduate Program of Agricultural Engineering based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No.208/DIKTI/KEP/96 dated July 11, 1996.

2007

The Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering changed its name to the Undergraduate Program of Agricultural Engineering at the Faculty of Agriculture based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No.163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated November 29, 2007. The Undergraduate Program of Agricultural Engineering has received an accreditation grade of "B" based on the decision letter of the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education No. 05996/Ak-VII-S1-035/USULBT/X/2003 dated October 3, 2003, and this assessment is valid until October 3, 2008.

2010

Furthermore, in 2010, the Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering received an accreditation grade with a rating of "C" based on the decision letter of the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education No. 030/BAN-PT/Ak-XIII/S1/XII/2010 dated December 10, 2010, and this assessment is valid until December 10, 2015.

2017

In 2017, the Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering was re-accredited and received an accreditation grade of "B" based on the decision letter of the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education No. 0341/BAN-PT/Akred/S/I/2017 dated January 10, 2017, and this assessment is valid until January 10, 2022.

2021

The Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering changed its name to the Undergraduate Program of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering based on the Chancellor's Decree No. 3561/UN5.1.R.SK/PRS/2021 dated 18 October 2021.
