Students of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), participated in the Accelerated Soybean Planting activity across seven PTPN IV Regional II plantation units. These included Mayang Plantation, Tanjung Jati Plantation, Adolina Plantation, Berangir Plantation, Dolok Sinumbah Plantation, Marihat Plantation, and Tinjowan Plantation. The students' involvement was part of an internship program that provided opportunities to gain direct exposure to crop cultivation practices and the dynamics of plantation management.

Through this activity, students gained practical experience in applying agricultural knowledge in the field, particularly in supporting soybean cultivation. This experience is expected to strengthen their understanding of cultivation techniques, crop management, and the challenges encountered in agricultural operations. Thus, the internship program not only serves as an off-campus learning opportunity but also encourages students to connect academic knowledge with the practical needs of the agricultural sector.

Accelerated soybean planting also plays a strategic role in supporting increased national food production. As an important commodity, soybeans are essential for meeting public food needs and supporting the sustainability of agricultural systems. Students' participation in this activity is expected to contribute to strengthening agricultural human resource capacity while fostering awareness of efforts to increase productivity and food security.

The collaboration between the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, FP USU, and PTPN IV Regional II also reflects the importance of synergy between higher education institutions and industry in preparing competent and adaptable graduates. Through direct involvement in field operations, students can develop technical skills, adaptability, and an understanding of workforce needs. This synergy is expected to strengthen the relationship between higher education and the agricultural sector while supporting the development of competitive human resources.

The activity contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through support for increased soybean production and strengthened food security; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the development of student competencies by providing practical experience in the agricultural sector; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and industry to support sustainable agricultural development.
